What people are saying

“Investing in arts education for our children is one of the best ways to improve the future for our entire city. I am honored to support Plessy’s Green Gala and help these budding artists grow.”

— Chris Pownall, executive producer of tv and film productions

“Children deserve an outlet for their creativity and it's important that they know the Arts will enrich their lives and their communities. My support for the Green Gala helps ensure these kids grow academically and develop confidence.”

-Andre Dufrene, owner/operator of Dufrene Transportation

“Homer Plessy is a safe haven for children to express themselves and embrace their creativity. I often see children experimenting with their identity as early as PreK. There is an emphasis on imagination and creativity and as a former classroom teacher, I can see how that truly helps foster a love for learning like no other school in this city. The teachers are happy. The buildings often buzz with music. The over all feeling of both campuses can only be summed up by the word: inspired. Homer Plessy Community School is creating the artists of tomorrow in a city that thrives because of a culture of the arts.”

-Marguerite Albares, artist and Plessy parent

“Arts education is important because learning about art history is learning about the history of human thought, the evolution of ideas through time. Learning more about art history is learning more about human nature and who we are. Art is communication and when we know art we communicate better.”

-Hanna Lemoine, artist at Hanna Lemoine Fine Art

“Incorporating arts in education is vital as it enhances academic performance significantly. Research indicates that students exposed to arts education exhibit higher GPAs, test scores, and are less inclined to quit school, showing a correlation between art engagement and educational success. This advantage is universal across diverse student demographics, emphasizing the positive impact of art on learning outcomes. Studies reveal that students engaged in four years of arts education score 100 points higher on the SAT than their peers with limited exposure to art, underscoring the profound role of art education in fostering academic advancement and personal development.”
